These pillow cases, like other high-count linens which I have bought--are very sturdy and would last a long time, I am sure. I found these sheets to be scatchy and not the least bit soft or comfy. The only thing I can compare them to is a fine sandpaper. The first night of sleeping on these sheets I was tempted to get out of bed and put another set on. Anyone that ever made the choice to buy an Olympic Queen sized mattress, as my now-deceased wife and I did when buying one of those Select beds that claim to be so Comfort-able thanks to their Number-ed system for setting the mattress firmness when you try to Sleep on it, can probably tell you tales of woe in trying to find the right sized sheet sets. In many ways searching for sheets for that mattress had been like trying to get waterbed sheets (back when we had one of those long ago). Owners of those things wind up going back to the stores where they got the bed/mattress because outside of those places you just never see those odd sizes anywhere else.

Thanks to Amazon and a little searching on the web I learned that Olympic Queen sized sheets (or Expanded Queen in some manufacturer's terminology) were available for sale online and since that time I've been a very happy customer. Well, almost very happy, as I hesitate to give 5 stars to anything less than perfection and I can't quite say these sheets are perfect. They're very nice, but not quite perfect. Given the choice, I'd probably say 4.5, but without that possibility I'm just this side of perfect.

I think my only real complaint when looking for these items has been in trying to find color choices that I'm happy with in a thread count that I also like. Besides that, the only other complaint I might register is that there's only a very limited selection of choices that offer Amazon's Prime shipping option so when looking at these items a buyer needs to carefully check the shipping costs and factor those in so they get the best overall deal.

At the time I'm writing this review I'm writing about a set of the 600TC (thread count) Egyptian Cotton Olympic Queen sheets in the Taupe color. I'd rather have sheets with a higher thread count, and actually ordered a set of 800TC sheets but the vendor for that sale delivered the wrong size and wrong thread count for the order I originally placed. Still needing sheets of the right size, and not particularly enamored with the striped sheet sets that show up in the 1000TC selections, I opted to drop back to these 600TC sheets. Honestly, I can't tell the difference in softness between the 1000TC sheets that I bought several weeks back and these 600TC sheets, at least not yet, but of course the vendor promises that these sheets will get softer with each washing/drying, and after several cycles of use (and cleaning) I may very well notice the difference.

Where I'm sure I would notice that thread count difference sooner is in the durability and wear of these sheets. I've had the more generic sheets with lower thread counts and they just don't last. (My wife used to have dry and chapped feet and the dry skin would wind up tearing up the lower quality sheets.) These are lovely, thick, sturdy cotton sheets, but only if you're a short-sheeting prankster. The size on the top sheet label is 106 x 102. Actual measured size is a meager 90! x 102 -- a full 16" shorter than advertised. This makes it impossible to tuck the top sheet in. Also to be noted: the elastic on the bottom sheet lasted through exactly one washing before giving up. Luckily, the bottom sheet is such a tight fit on a Cal King that elastic isn't needed to keep it on.
