I love my pile of old down/feather pillows -- but, bless 'em, they were shedding and I was sneezing and menopause had me soaking them through almost every night. Old, and rather spendy, pillow protectors didn't help. So I bought four of these pillow protectors over a year ago, cleaned the pillows and stuffed them inside the new protectors. Side zipper makes that soooo much easier than for protectors with end-openings. Generally, it seems that sheet manufacturers haven't caught up with the trend toward "princess and the pea" mattresses. You know, the thick ones that are almost to heavy to turn and that strain the corner seams of not-quite-big-enough fitted sheets. It's frustrating.

I can't say whether this sheet actually fits an 18" mattress. What I do know is that it fits our 15" pillowtop with a little fabric to spare. Whew!

Shrinkage of linens is always a concern for me, one of those things I've learned by sad experience. What I'm doing to deal a delicate hand to this sheet is to wash and rinse it in cold water, only, and to dry it on low low low. The last of it can finish draped over the banister-cum-drying-rack.

One thing to be aware of is that, on the spectrum of crisp and crunchy to soft and snuggly, the sheet so far is pretty far out on the crisp/crunchy end of things. This is how I prefer cotton bed linens, and the pattern hides wrinkles pretty well, but it is not to everyone's taste.

I loved these sheets in the photograph, but didn't order them in time. I got the pillow cases, though, and they were lovely. Finally, the queen sheets came back in stock, so I ordered two sets. The roses on the sheets I received are brown, not pink. I am terribly disappointed. My bedroom is pink, burgundy and green, so the sheets in the photo would have been perfect, but the brown just doesn't work. Seriously disappointed with the lack of softness of these sheets. Egyptian cotton fabric is normally very soft. These sheets feel coarse and do not appear to even be the sateen weave (except for product photo). I have slept on much softer 300 Thread Count sheets! It did take a lot of washes to break these in. after those initial washings they have become soft and silky. These are nice, but the bad is that they are supper wrinkly, and there is nothing you can do about it. I guess you can iron them, but seriously that's a little neurotic. They look super fancy and have a wonderful sheen to them.
